B to B<\/strong>: \u00a0business to business: describing or involving business arrangements or trade between different businesses<\/p>\n

B to C<\/strong> : \u00a0business to consumer: describing or involving the sale of goods or services directly to customers for their own use<\/p>\n

Back of the House : <\/strong>Support and service areas usually not seen by guests of a hotel<\/p>\n

Banquet Event Order (BEO) \/ Function Sheet:<\/b> List of Instructions that outline all event logistics and instructions a venue needs to successfully execute an event. This document details the timings of the event, space or room setup, menu selections, audio visual requirements, and how the event will be run.<\/p>\n

Black Tie: <\/strong>Required dress is formal; tuxedos for men and evening dresses for women<\/p>\n

Business Attire: <\/strong>Required dress is what would normally be worn at the office, i.e., business suits<\/p>\n

Casual Attire : <\/strong>Generally considered a middle ground between business formal wear and street wear, but its definition can vary widely among different organizations<\/p>\n

Centrepiece :\u00a0<\/strong>Decorative item for the centre of a banquet table.<\/p>\n

Concurrent sessions:<\/strong> events happening\u00a0or\u00a0existing\u00a0at the same\u00a0time<\/p>\n

Conference pack<\/strong> : a pack of items that could include a schedule or program of events, a map of the venue and information on venue facilities<\/p>\n

Cut-Off Date:\u00a0<\/b>This date refers to when a facility releases a block of rooms or space.<\/p>\n

Day Delegate rate (DDR)<\/strong>: \u00a0is a charge by a venue per attendee, per day for an event, based on a full day\u2019s meeting<\/p>\n

Early bird registration:<\/strong> tickets and services purchased before a specified date are available at a reduced fee.<\/p>\n

Force Majeure Clause:\u00a0 <\/b>This clause is included in most venue contracts to prevent the facility from being held liable should it not be able to hold up to their end of the agreement due to circumstances that are not within the venue\u2019s control. These circumstances include events such as a natural disaster or other \u2018Acts of God\u2019.<\/p>\n

Lectern:\u00a0<\/strong>A stand placed at the front of the conference room on which a speaker may rest notes or books. Can be free-standing or table-top and often fitted with a light.<\/p>\n

No-show:<\/strong> An expected guest (i.e. delegate, hotel guest, attendee) who does not attend and hasn\u2019t advised the organizer or hotel of a planned absence or delay.<\/p>\n

Pre registration:<\/strong> booking onto a meeting or event prior to the day of the event.<\/p>\n

Setup and Take Down<\/strong> : process of preparing equipment for an event and taking apart that equipment after the event<\/p>\n

Waitlist: <\/b>A client is \u2018waitlisted\u2019 when an event, session, or space is fully booked. They can be held on a waitlist for cancellations and if a spot becomes free they can be offered the opportunity to attend.<\/p>\n

Award Ceremony: <\/strong>An event where the performance of individuals and groups in a company or industry are recognised. It is used to honour and motivate key staff.<\/p>\n

Break-Out Sessions :<\/strong>\u00a0small group sessions, panels, workshops or presentations, offered concurrently within the event, formed to focus on specific subjects<\/p>\n

Cocktail party<\/b>: a formal party with alcoholic drinks, usually in the early evening<\/span><\/p>\n

Colloquium:<\/b> a meeting in which a lot of people discuss something formally<\/span><\/p>\n

Consumer show<\/b>: B2C exhibition or showcase of products<\/span><\/p>\n

Conference :<\/b> a large meeting dealing with a particular subject<\/span><\/p>\n

Congress:<\/strong> a\u00a0large\u00a0formal\u00a0meeting\u00a0of\u00a0representatives<\/span>\u00a0from\u00a0countries\u00a0or\u00a0societies\u00a0at which\u00a0ideas\u00a0are\u00a0discussed\u00a0and\u00a0information\u00a0is\u00a0exchanged<\/p>\n

Concert:<\/strong> a\u00a0performance\u00a0of\u00a0music\u00a0by one or more\u00a0musicians\u00a0or\u00a0singers<\/p>\n

Exhibition<\/strong>: an event\u00a0at which\u00a0objects\u00a0such as\u00a0paintings\u00a0are\u00a0shown\u00a0to the\u00a0public, a\u00a0situation\u00a0in which someone\u00a0shows\u00a0a\u00a0particular\u00a0skill\u00a0or\u00a0quality\u00a0to the\u00a0public, or the\u00a0act\u00a0of\u00a0showing these things<\/p>\n

Fashion show<\/strong>: a show for the\u00a0public\u00a0where\u00a0models<\/span>\u00a0wear\u00a0new\u00a0styles\u00a0of\u00a0clothes<\/span><\/p>\n

Festival<\/strong>: an\u00a0organized\u00a0set of\u00a0special\u00a0events, such as\u00a0musical\u00a0performances<\/p>\n

Fundraising Event : <\/strong>A special event aiming to collect money or other resources in order to support a charity campaign, a cause or an organization.<\/p>\n

Gala Dinner: <\/strong>\u00a0a glamorous social event involving a sit down meal, dancing and entertainment. Often used as a great fundraiser<\/p>\n

Hybrid Event<\/strong>: Event that combines a live, in-person audience with a virtual, online audience.<\/p>\n

Incentive Travel:<\/strong> A form of group travel, paid by companies to reward their top performers or customers by sending them on unforgettable trips of a few days\u2019 duration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Masterclasses:\u00a0<\/strong>A seminar, a class or a workshop for advanced audience conducted by an expert in a particular field.<\/p>\n

Meeting: <\/strong>\u00a0a\u00a0planned\u00a0occasion\u00a0when\u00a0people\u00a0come together, either in\u00a0person\u00a0or\u00a0online<\/span>, to\u00a0discuss something<\/span><\/p>\n

Networking Event:\u00a0<\/strong>An event, specially designed for the purpose of building relationships and\/or creating new contacts among individuals or groups of people that share a common interest<\/p>\n

Preview<\/strong>: an\u00a0opportunity\u00a0to\u00a0see\u00a0something such as a\u00a0film\u00a0or a\u00a0collection\u00a0of\u00a0works\u00a0of\u00a0art\u00a0before it is\u00a0shown\u00a0to the\u00a0public<\/span><\/p>\n

Product Launch:\u00a0<\/strong>The introduction of a new product launch to the marketplace. usually the primary purpose is to build sales momentum.<\/p>\n

Roadshow:<\/strong> a series\u00a0of\u00a0shows\u00a0or\u00a0events\u00a0that take\u00a0place\u00a0in different\u00a0places\u00a0around the\u00a0country, for\u00a0entertainment\u00a0or in\u00a0order\u00a0to give the\u00a0public\u00a0information\u00a0about a\u00a0company,\u00a0product<\/p>\n

Seminar:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>A meeting that is organised to inform a group of people about a specific topic, or to teach a specific skill.<\/p>\n

Team Building Event : <\/strong>Activities or events designed to bring together a group of people, increase motivation and promote cooperation, so that they may work effectively as a team.<\/p>\n

Trade Show: <\/b>\u00a0event where a specific industry meets its peers<\/p>\n

Virtual event:<\/b>\u00a0an event that takes place entirely online, such as a webinar<\/p>\n

Webinar:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cShort for Web-based seminar, a webinar is a presentation, lecture, workshop or seminar that is transmitted over the Web using video conferencing software. A key feature of a Webinar is its interactive elements: the ability to give, receive and discuss information in real-time.<\/p>\n

Welcome Reception: <\/strong>the opening of an event where welcome drinks and canap\u00e9s etc are served<\/p>\n

Working Lunch: <\/strong>a lunch over which business is discussed<\/p>\n

Workshop:\u00a0<\/strong>Similar to a Seminar, however workshops generally have more hands-on and group activities. Proforma Invoice<\/strong>: an\u00a0invoice, usually one\u00a0sent\u00a0to a new\u00a0customer,\u00a0asking\u00a0for\u00a0payment\u00a0before\u00a0goods\u00a0or\u00a0services\u00a0are\u00a0supplied<\/p>\n

Proposal:\u00a0<\/strong> A written offer from a vendor to a prospective buyer, produced in response to an inquiry<\/p>\n

Quote<\/strong>: the\u00a0price\u00a0that a\u00a0person\u00a0or\u00a0company\u00a0says they will\u00a0charge\u00a0to do a\u00a0piece\u00a0of\u00a0work<\/p>\n

Registration Fee:\u00a0 <\/strong>Cost of attending a conference. Fees can vary according to the time of registration, level of participation and also membership type<\/p>\n

Request for proposal (RFP)<\/strong> : A formal request by an event or meeting planner, which lists\/details all of the specifications required for the event, sent to suppliers in order for the companies to draw up a proposal of their services and bid for the business.<\/p>\n

Room Hire Rate :<\/strong>\u00a0the fee to rent the room[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Food & Beverage” tab_id=”1655736836059-0571f2f8-9b22″][vc_column_text]A La Carte: <\/b>French term that translate to \u2018from the menu,\u2019 referring to items selected individually as opposed to offered in a package.<\/p>\n

Appetiser :<\/strong>\u00a0small bite-sized food served before a gala dinner<\/p>\n

Bed and breakfast :<\/strong> a\u00a0room\u00a0to\u00a0sleep\u00a0in for the\u00a0night\u00a0and a\u00a0morning\u00a0meal<\/p>\n

Bowl food:<\/strong>\u00a0a substantial alternative to canap\u00e9s. A range of high quality savoury and sweet small dishes, served in small bowls or other small containers, to be eaten standing up with small forks, spoons or chopsticks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Buffet :<\/strong>\u00a0 a\u00a0meal\u00a0where\u00a0people\u00a0serve\u00a0themselves different\u00a0types\u00a0of\u00a0food<\/p>\n

Canap\u00e9s:<\/strong>\u00a0a small appetiser often served before a meal and eaten with the fingers. Can be hot or cold<\/p>\n

Cash Bar: <\/strong>bar at an event or function where guests can purchase drinks as opposed to an open bar where alcohol is provided for free.<\/p>\n

Coffee break:<\/strong> a\u00a0short\u00a0rest\u00a0from\u00a0work\u00a0in the\u00a0morning\u00a0or\u00a0afternoon<\/p>\n

Continental Breakfast<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a breakfast that normally includes: an assortment of different bread with butter\/jam\/honey, cheese, meat, croissants, cereal, pastries, fruit juice and hot beverages<\/p>\n

Corkage Charge:\u00a0<\/b>A small charge applied for bringing outside alcohol into a venue or facility. The charge is normally made per bottle.<\/p>\n

Family Style Service : <\/strong>Food served on platters at the center of the table (rather than on plates in the kitchen) so guests can serve themselves while seated<\/p>\n

Fork Buffet: <\/strong>a buffet style eating arrangement where all food provided can be eaten with a fork<\/p>\n

Full English Breakfast<\/strong> : a traditionally British breakfast consisting of tea, coffee, juices, toast and eggs (fried, scrambled or poached), bacon, sausages, baked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes.<\/p>\n

House Wine: <\/strong>generally the cheapest and usually the best value wine available at an event or restaurant<\/p>\n

Open Bar<\/strong>: bar at an event or function where the alcohol is provided for free. This may or may not be budgeted after which the open bar will convert into a cash bar<\/p>\n

Refreshments:\u00a0<\/strong>A light snack or drink.<\/p>\n

Roll-In Meal:\u00a0 <\/strong>Buffet presented on a moveable cart<\/p>\n

Sit-down meal:<\/strong> A sit-down\u00a0meal\u00a0is\u00a0served\u00a0to\u00a0people\u00a0who are\u00a0sitting\u00a0at a\u00a0table<\/p>\n

The inner chairs directly face the front of the room, while the outer chairs may be angled to provide a better view of the stage.<\/p>\n

Banquet-style: <\/b>Also referred to as \u2018Pod\u2019 or \u2018Round set\u2019, this seating arrangement is designed for large audiences for events such as awards ceremonies and galas, where there are typically round tables of 8-10 guests seated.<\/p>\n

Boardroom-style Layout: <\/b>Designed to facilitate conversation, preferred for training or committee meetings, this seating arrangement sees delegates seated facing each other around a square, rectangle, oval, or round table.<\/p>\n

Cabaret-style Layout:\u00a0<\/b>A number of small round tables are laid out with chairs facing the stage area, with a gap closest to the speaker\/performer so that no attendees have their backs to the front.<\/p>\n

Circle-Style Layout<\/b> :\u00a0Layout arranging seats in a circle, where the inner space of the circle is not used.<\/p>\n

Classroom \/ Schoolroom Seating: <\/b>Rows of square or rectangular tables and chairs all face the stage or podium, directly facing the speaker or screen.<\/p>\n

Conference-style \/ Hollow Square Layout:\u00a0 <\/b>Also referred to as \u2018board-of-directors set-up\u2019 or \u2018boardroom set-up,\u2019 a room will feature chairs arranged around a table, with everyone facing in for a discussion. If there are too many participants to fit around one boardroom table, several tables may be used. Hollow square means that there is space in the center between the tables.<\/p>\n

Reception-style:\u00a0 <\/b>Designed to encourage participants to network and a common set up during a cocktail reception. High-top tables are placed throughout the room with limited or no seating provided.<\/p>\n

U-Shape Seating:\u00a0 <\/strong>Tables set up in a U shape with chairs arranged around the perimeter; chairs are placed outside and sometimes inside too<\/p>\n

Audio Visual:<\/strong> \u00a0equipment\u00a0that\u00a0produces \u00a0recorded\u00a0pictures\u00a0and\u00a0sound<\/p>\n

Backdrop: \u00a0<\/strong>painted curtain or drape used to re-create a scene for a photo shoot<\/p>\n

Backlight: <\/strong>A type of illumination from behind the subject or stage<\/p>\n

Bandwidth:\u00a0 <\/b>refers to how much data can be sent over an internet connection (e.g., hardwired ethernet or WiFi).<\/p>\n

Customer relationship management (CRM)<\/strong>: A shared online database system that stores a major list of contacts and their details. This system allows companies to manage their interaction, event attendance history, and communications with their clients in an organized way.<\/p>\n

Front Projection\u00a0 :<\/strong>\u00a0A projection system which includes a projector unit and a separate screen. The projector is located in front of the screen, and is typically mounted several metres away from the ceiling, floor, or in the rear wall.<\/p>\n

HDMI<\/strong>: High-Definition Multimedia Interface: a\u00a0brand\u00a0name\u00a0for\u00a0equipment\u00a0used for\u00a0sending\u00a0uncompressed<\/span>\u00a0digital\u00a0signals\u00a0from a\u00a0sound\u00a0or\u00a0video\u00a0source\u00a0to a\u00a0computer or\u00a0television, screen<\/p>\n

Lapel, Lavalier or Pendant Microphone:\u00a0<\/strong>A small microphone that is clipped onto a person and is hands-free.<\/p>\n

LCD<\/strong>: liquid\u00a0crystal\u00a0display = a way of\u00a0showing\u00a0images\u00a0on\u00a0electronic\u00a0devices\u00a0using a\u00a0liquid\u00a0that\u00a0reflects\u00a0light\u00a0when it\u00a0receives\u00a0an\u00a0electric\u00a0current<\/span><\/p>\n

Table Microphone: <\/strong>Stationary microphone set up at a table<\/p>\n

Video conferencing: <\/strong>a system that allows two or more people who are in different places to talk to and see each other using electronic technology<\/p>\n

Virtual reality<\/strong>: a set of\u00a0images\u00a0and\u00a0sounds,\u00a0produced\u00a0by a\u00a0computer, that\u00a0seem\u00a0to\u00a0represent\u00a0a\u00a0place\u00a0or a\u00a0situation\u00a0that a\u00a0person\u00a0can take\u00a0part\u00a0in<\/p>\n

Webcast<\/strong>: a\u00a0broadcast\u00a0made on the\u00a0internet<\/p>\n
